NBA Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Detroit Pistons

The Cavs vs. The Bad Boys

Detroit defeated Cleveland in seven games during last season’s conference semifinals, they beat Cleveland 3 out of 4 in the regular season and the first two games of the Eastern finals before the Cavaliers came up with two emotional home wins in Cleveland to even the series (2–2).

In all 4 games the cavaliers played well in the first half only to get destroyed by the pistons in the 3rd quarter of each game.

In Game 1 3rd quarter LeBron hit just 2 of 5 for 4 points and the team scored only 14 points. Game 2 Detroit erased a 12 point Cleveland half time lead as LeBron went 0 for 1 with 0 points and the Cavaliers scored a total of 13 points. Game 3 in Cleveland LeBron was held to just 1 free throw as the cavaliers lost a 3 point half time lead. Game 4 LeBron went 0 – 6 as Detroit erased a 7 point Cleveland half time lead.

With game 5 in Detroit tonight the Cavaliers must find away to not fall out in the 3rd quarter. If the Pistons take game 5 in Auburn hills, Mich. (3- 2) the series will again continue in Cleveland for game 6. It seems to be a must win game tonight for the Cavaliers. Winning tonight in Detroit will set the stage for the knock out punch in Cleveland game 6.
Here are some images for game 1,2,3 and 4

MLB's Ryan Freels suffers outrageous collision

I am going crazy here looking for a video of Ryan Freel’s collision today. Did you see that?

Freel collided strepitously against teammate Norris Hopper after trying to catch a “fly” by Humberto Cota at the start of the inning. Unbelievebably enough he did catch it and the Reds did win this game against the Pittsburg Pirates after all. Even Hopper was able to continue playing. But Freel knocked himself unconscious, crumbled down strepitously and laid on the field for 13 scary minutes.

Paramedics took Ryan Freel out the field in stretcher after examining him and left everyone speechless and fearing the worst. Luckily, according to recent news, the team announced he regained the feeling in his legs and was able to speak coherently discarding any important brain damage that might have impaired him permanently.

This 31 yr. old fielder could’ve died today in such a nasty collision. He is still hospitalized and obviously suffered contusions to his head and neck and I might add myself it is a true miracle how he’s not seriously injured. It would’ve been definitely a dreadful moment in sports.

But this comes as no surprise: Ryan Freel has been dubbed as ‘reckless and dangerous’ in the field. He’s outdone himself before on the catches: Quoting Mark Sheldon from Reds.com here’s a description of one of his famous crazy catches …“Mind-bending catch: Not surprisingly, right fielder Ryan Freel's spectacular diving catch on the warning track Tuesday night vs. St. Louis remained a buzzworthy topic Wednesday. It was also prominently featured on television highlight shows”...

It is ironic to think that Freel himself was the go-to-guy whenever the injury-ridden Reds in 2004 needed him as an emergency backup catcher and he was always up to the task. It is now Ken Griffey Jr.’s turn to replace him, while Freel recovers.

Not a very lucky guy I’d say. Or maybe he is. If this scares him enough it might even be a life turning event. Remember Ryan Freel is the same guy who was arrested twice for DUI charges in 1 year and told the police he was ‘unemployed’ when pulled over. He got away by paying a $250.00 bond. Maybe he’ll quit drinking or quit sports. I wouldn’t do either, but it was just a suggestion.

The Champions League Final Wed. May 23rd

AC Milan vs. Liverpool FC

Only a few hours before fate is sealed in Athens, Greece for these two champions.

This very complicated match will take place tomorrow night and I’m already thinking of betting some big bucks on it. The excitement of being able to reach the final and compete head to head against each other at the end of this elimination process from out of 70 teams, can only be surpassed by the excitement of actually getting a chance of “killing each other” (let’s hope figuratively speaking, right?) to finally hold the legendary Champions League Cup and settle that years long question of who should’ve been the real champion? AC Milan or Liverpool FC.

Now the real “champion” is not only going to be the undisputable winner of the League but they’re also going to earn an estimated 100 million euros for television broadcasting rights, endorsements, players value and ticket sales. This information comes from a study released on Tuesday by the good anti-online gambling people of MasterCard (http://www.mastercard.com/) the official sponsor for the Champions League.

Funny that it would be MasterCard themselves sponsoring one of the mega soccer events in Europe and one of the most important for sports bettors around the world, when MasterCard has repeatedly made clear they are completely against, and will not authorize, any type of Internet gambling transactions. Now, you can’t really blame that on their company alone, since this is all part of the Wager Act passed recently, but… I don’t know.

I’d just think they had to get a slice of the pie somehow, so if all those transactions take place and they can’t “legally” perceive any profit from it, then what the heck?, let’s make our money some other way wouldn’t ya say? (and yes, those bets will take place whether the government, the banks or your wife likes it or not; that’s what local bookies, cash and price per head shops are for. Don’t know what a price per head shop is? Click here: http://www.dailybookie.com/ you don’t want to be the only one left out do you? )

Where were we? Oh yeah I was bashing MC… but hey, you’ve got to give them credit for their smart business moves: MasterCard is now the king of kings when it comes to one of the most (if not the most) lucrative sports in the world: Soccer. They landed their exclusive alliance with FIFA as the official sponsor for the World Cup since it was held in Italy in 1990, and for those of you not familiar, this happens to be the most viewed sports event on earth with audiences of over 3 billion people (reported during the last World Cup held in Germany in 2006). They then moved on to sponsor the next 4 World Cups as well as the Womens’ World Cup, The Champions League, the UEFA European Championship, the Copa America and Copa Libertadores which are two major events with only South and Central American countries participating.

Poor Visa has only been able to sponsor the Olympic games since 1986, and trust me, they also wanted in when it came to the Champions League. This came after they finally realized how many people were madly in love with soccer around the globe. So much so, they had to settle things in court and after Visa had aggressively negotiated with FIFA and had basically taken over the contract from MasterCard, FIFA had to make things over after a judge ordered resolution and MC remained king. According to the good ol’ people at MC, before the World Cup, they had a limited presence in Germany, to cite an example. After sponsoring this event, they had already signed major deals with more than 90% of the German banks thanks obviously to their commercial presence at the time.

My thoughts on all this? I think it plain sucks how they will sponsor the event and produce millions of dollars in revenue but, we, the people, the customers who acquire gigantic debts by using plastic to pay for all the useless crap we buy (I know I shouldn’t have gotten that Wonder Stain Remover and the Steel Abs thingie but shopping tv can be so addictive…), we’re stuck paying for years, work our butts off towards having a good credit standing; basically through a ‘carefully planned strategy’ of licking the banks boots’ so they will smile and think we’re good people and finally let us use our darn credit, but guess what happens?...we still can’t do what we want with it!!!
They show me how great the Champions League is, yet, I cannot use my card to bet on it. Ironic? Sad? Enfuriating? For some. In my case, I’ve learned that everything in life has a way around it. I won’t use my card to bet online (plus I don’t like how they treat me at post-up books), however you betcha I’ll be calling my local bookmaker and having him take my action for this monumental soccer match tomorrow. This guy outsourced his players package offshore and uses a pay-per-head shop so basically I call a toll-free number and tell them what I want. Then he and I settle some other day face to face. The thing is I don’t have to use a credit card… “Neener, neener, neener”...
Ok I’ll grow up now, but the following link is just to show how some other clever fellas also, think outside the box:

http://www.eog.com/news/industry.aspx?id=24574

Finally, I’m all in for Milan. Yeah I had to say it. They’re the dream team right now: Seedorf, Kaka, Cannavaro…I mean really…I’m truly hoping they won’t disappoint me this time; we gotta get this Cup boys, it’s gotta be payback for Liverpool (very sorry Liverpool fans ;)

Stuck in the office? You know when there’s a will there’s a way!...You can watch the game online for £5 / €8 Standard Price and for £2 / €3 for Sky Sports 1 and 2 Digital Subscribers. Here’s the link: http://home.skysports.com/ (oh yeah, you might want to use your Visa or MasterCard for that…lol)

Finally, here’s a video with the penalties for that infamous Champions League Final between AC Milan and the Liverpool FC at Instanbul in 2005. Enjoy!

BET ON NBA

Wagering the NBA Finals

The EAST

The Cavaliers finally lay to rest the New Jersey Nets. After a 22 point first half deficit the Nets pounded back with in 1 in the 3rd Quarter. Lebron draws his 4th foul and is forced to sit as New Jersey Pounds the Cavs 22 to 8 in the 3rd. But to no reward as the start of the 4th warrants lebron’s return and the devastating Cleveland attack continued to pull out a 16 point win over the Nets.

The WEST

The San Antonio Spurs proved Friday night they can beat a complete Phoenix Suns team. Their reward is a berth in the Western Conference finals. The Spurs held on to beat the Suns 114-106 and host the Utah Jazz in Game 1 of the conference finals on Sunday. It's the Spurs' third trip to the conference finals in the last five years, and they won the title in 2003 and 2005.

The NBA Finals

The Bad Boys host the Road Dogs from Cleveland and San Antonio Host the Utah Jazz. Each with a 2-2-1-1-1 Best of 7 series. The odds maker are favoring the pistons by at least 5 in game 1 and an overwhelming -290 for the pistons to take the series. Probably do to the Up and Down play of Lebron James.

The odds makers clearly like the San Antonio Spurs' chances of playing in the NBA finals. The series price opened at -455 in favor of the Spurs to advance past the Utah Jazz in the Western Conference Finals. If you like the Jazz, you can currently find them at +375. San Antonio is favored by 6½ in Sundays Game 1.The fun begins, heart pounding NBA FINALS actions.

I'm Betting on the NBA Finals 2007 !!

The Eastern Conference Semi Finals

The Detroit Bad boys do it again; Chicago Bulls pushed Detroit Pistons to six games before the Pistons reached their fifth straight conference finals Thursday night.

Detroit will rest while waiting for the out come of the Cleveland Cavs 3-2 over the New Jersey Nets. But the Nets aren’t going quietly. New Jersey is attempting to become just the ninth NBA team to win a best-of-seven series after being down, 3-1. Friday at 7:00 PM the Cavs will try again to take the series, but this time in the Meadowlands.

The Eastern Finals will be the Detroit Pistons vs. Either the Cleveland Cavaliers or the New Jersey Nets. Can the Bad Boys take it to the final chapter the NBA World Championship.

The Western Conference Semi Finals

The Utah Jazz reach the finals and still don't know if they should worry about Tim Duncan or Steve Nash. They are awaiting the out come of the San Antonio Spurs who are 3-2 over the Phoenix Suns.

The Suns raced to a double-digit lead in the first half of Wednesday's Game 5. But San Antonio Spurs did not fold rallying for an 88-85 win and a 3-2 series lead.

Can Phoenix force a Game 7? If they do it leaves the Jazz's next opponent up in the air until Sunday. Either way, the Jazz will be starting the next round on the road against the Spurs or the Suns.

Enjoy the heart throbbing excitement of the NBA Playoffs.

Dirk Nowitzki is the new 2006-07 MVP

Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki awarded as 2006-07 MVP

Our favorite 7 ft. German player gets Most Valuable Player (MVP award for the 2006-2007 season, an honor that no other European has ever achieved before. This was presented to him today at the American Airlines Center. To support him, there were the rest of the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban ( owner of the team ) commissioner Mr. David Stern and Avery Johnson, coach for the Dallas team, whom also participated in an emotional speech singing praises for your majesty; none other than ‘the Dirk’.

During his passionate speech Stern remarked how…“Nowitzki was the only player to shoot better than 50% from the field, 40% from three-point range, and 90% from the free throw line plus averaging a total of 24.6 points a game”… Nowitzki has always been characterized by his humbleness and shyness, for his fierce determination in the court, as well as for being a splendid free-throw shooter and and a sure-fire scorer with all eyes on him.

It is, in a way, a sweet & sour celebration mainly due to the disastrous way in which, during the biggest surprise of the NBA history, the Warriors eliminated the Mavericks in round 1 during the 6th game of the elimination stage for the final phase of the Eastern Conference.

Fans are claiming it is really strange to be giving an award to a Most Valuable Player who won’t even get a try at the finals this year for the NBA Championship, and although it is hard to separate the facts, it is essential to remember that the MVP award is really given to that player who stood out above the rest for showing outstanding work ethics, great drive and unstoppable desire as well as a solid commitment to the sport, the fans, and the team throughout the entire regular season – not just the playoffs - in which they did acquire 67 astonishing victories. Even so, it still rained on Dirk’s parade. I say, give the kid a break, he did a great job and certainly one man can’t save a whole team. There’s nothing to be ashamed of Pal!,… or is there?

I found some of Dirk’s Dorkiest moments on the net and of course, it is my obligation to divert all the focus from the guys’ great skills and all that blah blah and examine the human, dorky and socially awkward “Dirk” moments that are forgotten when an …“iconic, elite athlete”… like Stern called him, steps up to infinite stardom and recognition. Dirk and the MVP title is like that new song with Fergie and Daddy Yankee: I think that when two of those things with almighty power unite, there’s no going back and all there is the infinite and beyond. As a public service, and in an effort to prevent all that fame from ballooning up Dirk’s head and turning him into a ‘playa’, here are his most embarrassing videos (that’ll sure bring him back to earth…just in case ;) :

Dirk filming the Mavs video:

The stiffness on this guy for lord sakes’… did someone say Salsa lessons? Here in Costa Rica, (bookie haven for all bookmaking offshore per head operations -may I say-) he’d be eaten alive at any dance club by the experienced, bootie wiggling 5 ft. locals. Yep, the only case in which size really doesn’t matter.

Dirk kills a bug in a press conference:

He is so focused on what he’s saying (…NOT!) that he gets distracted by a tiny bug who saw her demise in the enormous fist of this blonde giant-bug-hater. If the bug was a Mavs fan he’ll have to issue a public apology.

Drunken 3am phone calls (No, not to Nash's number...)

Awww, that is actually kind of cruel. He was lusting after the trophy at the time the video was posted, November 03, 2006 and a few months later we now know she never returned the calls.

All the Mavs eating Tacos and mispronouncing CueCards (Did I say that? No, no I meant, the great Mavs filming a commercial!...)

We simply couldn’t let the guy go down alone, so let’s include the rest of the Mavs, along with some sports commentators to completely make asses of themselves...

...but wait, there’s more...

Want to see how that video turned out? Check out the next one. It is in German but heck, no words are needed, you’ll be as speechless as I was. (P.S. He really needs those dancing lessons).
Dirk busting out moves

And finally, after this next and last video, it is now clear to me why they were sent home during the 1st round: These guys DIDN'T practice, they DIDN'T train…they were busy making YouTube crap!!!!
The Avery Bunch!

…Enjoy!

Betting on De La Hoya vs. Mayweather: The real title champion would be the bookie!!

Predictions for this match

After reviewing other people’s views I have to agree and disagree a bit. Basically, I’m getting the idea that everyone thinks that De La Hoya is too old for this, and although his career is in its last stages as a boxer, he probably stepped up his game during these 6 months of training to really be in top shape. Any less would definitely be dangerous as Mayweather is a splendid opponent whom, in his own words wants to “stomp, crush and beat” De La Hoya. However, only time will tell if De La Hoya fights his opponent like a warrior and gets to keep his welter weight Champion title or if Mayweather, the young challenger breaks the myth and gains instant glory and credibility. Plus tons of endorsements, which are definitely a juicy part of the deal.

I mean think about it: De La Hoya has everyone saying he’s not able to take on slick, quick-hitting boxers such as Mayweather so he’s got a reputation to defend and he also needs to bury some previous minor injuries that could’ve taken a toll on his performance. Winning this match would certainly mean wonders for his Promotion company, for the motivation of his boxers and would bring in a ton of cash, strategic alliances, and open a myriad of other business opportunities. Most importantly and thinking from the male point of view, (here comes the ego): The current champion would get one last glory before retiring.

Although he is not the favorite according to the experts. He’s definitely got the drive and the passion to endure and provide some quality entertainment. The eccentric Mayweather on the other hand has great knockout potential, all the hopes in the world and everything at stake for him. He’s probably in better condition; being a younger and strong boxer thirsty for blood as many other champs were before him; this is definitely something he inherited from his legendary boxing family roots. He is set on his ideas and will go all out to win. One thing, I must say I think goes against Mayweather is that same eccentricity as it may trigger his emotions and if not focused enough, he might lose control of them: with his father being there, the media attention clearly drooling over De La Hoya, him not getting anything more than 30% of the profit…I guess this would spark my fury if it was my case. He could become overly violent and show all his game from the early stages, get tired and then fall into Oscar’s frying pan or better yet, he could again, become super violent on this fight and take his rival down by KO. Now we can all bet on cashing in on some quality entertainment.
Haven’t made your bets yet? Who are you betting your money on? Have you already got a piece of the action on the line for the greatest fight night in the history of las Vegas? Who’s your favorite? Are you thinking speed over power? Will the fight be stolen by the judges, will this be a victory by decision? At least we unofficially know celebrity rapper 50-Cent is betting $1 million dollars on his friend Mayweather beating De La Hoya. I can see some friendship going down the drain if the Pretty Boy makes an ugly booboo and doesn’t defeat De la Hoya. Let the fight begin!
Talk to your local guy and ask him to contact one of these price per head shops so he can not only take your business but the business of hundreds of other boxing junkies just like myself who will want to bet on this event.

**********************************************************************************************************************************************************************

One of the biggest contenders in the world of boxing, this 34 yrs. old Mexican-american title-winning welterweight champion turned businessmen who has even dabbled a bit into a singing career (don’t ask) is probably training right now for one of the biggest, if not the biggest boxing match this year: De La Hoya vs. Mayweather -The bets are on ladies and gentleman; this is pure head to head real boxing action!

(Right, as you may guess the singing gig…didn’t quite work out.)

Certainly “The World awaits” for this exciting match on Saturday May 5th in which the opening bell will ring at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas at 8pm EST / 9pm PST. The fight will be broadcasted Pay Per View through HBO as it is already a habit for “The golden boy” who has brought in almost $500 MILLION dollars in previous pay per view events and will soon beat other Pay Per View record-breaking boxing icons such as Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson. That is big, but even bigger will be the number of betting action this event will spark among boxing enthusiasts and sports bettors this weekend.

Whatcha talkin’ bout Willis?

Yes, Willis, we’re talking about the all-time most important profit making fight in the history of the boxing capital of the world; Las Vegas: The De La Hoya-MayWeather bout is boxing history in the making, actually in the betmaking. As you can imagine “The Golden Boy vs. The Pretty Boy” is bringing in approximately over $55 million dollars in pay per view earnings and not only is it the largest live gate in Nevada’s history - No pressure huh?- but this boxing event will also be one of the highest grossing attractions for the local bookies as well as for the offshore books and price per head sportbooks whose phones will be off the hook, trying to handle the overwhelming betting rush coming from players. Hundreds of bettors will be busy on Saturday May 5th before 8pm EST trying to get a piece of the action based on what they heard, what they’ve seen and what their little fight-loving heart tells them.

De La Hoya will be splitting the revenue with his opponent, Mayweather, on a 70-30 deal: 70% goes to De La Hoya which is expected to be around $25 million and $10 millions would go to Mayweather for kicking the champs’ ass. The reason for this uneven profit split? Well, De La Hoya is promoting this event through his company “Golden Boy Promotions” which Mayweather doesn’t seem to like much:

“all of those guys at Golden Boy are nothing but puppets”…

The muppets would’ve probably taken offense at that. But anywho…You can’t really blame Mayweather for his harsh comments and ghetto-on-your-face-I’ll-shoot-you-me-and-your-mamma-too” type of attitude. The guy is angry; he had a really difficult upbringing…(why does this sound like something that belongs to E True Hollywood Story)

Here are some other stars that ALSO had difficult upbringings and turned out well...you already know. Oh, why Paris you ask?.... yeah; well we just put her up there for pure sheer pleasure!!!

Mayweather has auto-defined himself as flamboyant and crazy and… he loves it. Recently he stated that he usually carries as much as 30k in cash (yep, green dead presidents) and buys Rolls Royce’s with his credit card if he pleases so in the middle of the day. I feel you Floyd, I get bored like that too. Now, I usually just have a Prozac and some Dunkin’ Donuts...but hey we’re all different right? Then again, the Mayweather’s have a history of brutally violent fights, run-ins with the law, drugs and family issues, (sounds like any episode of the Osbournes? It’s pure coincidence…). Just recently his father Mr. Mayweather Sr. discovered another son whom he’s training to be a fighter and also ended his professional relationship with his son’s contender none other than Oscar De La Hoya. Mr Mayweather Sr. worked for De La Hoya as his longtime ringside trainer. Confusing? Here’s the light version: Daddy Mayweather was training the other guy instead of his son so that he could be in top notch condition to kick Mayweather Jr.s ass…something isn’t right here, this is too “Jerry Springerish” for me…)

On the other hand, De La Hoya is a calmed, well-mannered, handsome and very polite fellow who is not only involved in boxing himself, and even promoting other upcoming boxers but he’s also got his feet wet with real estate and other interesting fields . His charisma charms the ladies, the media and the fight fans but most of all the bettors and the local sports bookmakers handling their player packages offshore. These guys love both De La Hoya and Mayweather as they will benefit greatly by taking in major, I’m talking major, action when fights like this come around.
With the end of authorized online gambling for US residents, the local guy has managed to come ahead and outsource his bookmaking business to bigger pay per head sportsbooks offshore in places like Costa Rica. On a day like this glorious boxing Saturday, these per head betting shops, will take the hundreds of frantic, drunken, and most probably inaudible phone calls from some very anxious players in the US who are looking to bet through their local bookies while still sipping their Coronas at the Cinco de Mayo celebrations probably toasting WITH their local corner bookie next to them and watching the fight. Don’t worry, the bookie won’t have to take the action, he’ll only have to deal with the bill later.
