NLF playoffs, Cowboys with an edge over the Packers

The chase for the top spot on the National Football Conference (NFC) have a possible winner, the Cowboys.

The Packers had a clear chance but since Brett Favre got injured in the game against Dallas, opinions are favoring Tony Romo’s team, even tho Green Bay is still in great shape for at least the second ladder.

Favre was hurt on a hit by cornerback Nate Jones, now he’s in danger of losing his run of 249 consecutive starts ( a record that’s about six seasons longer than the next-best by a quarterback ) although he has at lest one week to heal since Packers next game is on December 9th.

“I had a similar injury last year, I lost feeling in my fingers and I still have some tingling. But I think I’ll be fine.” Favre said.

The Cowboys ended with a six-game winning streak from the Packers and they won their sixth consecutive match guaranteeing them a spot in the NFC playoffs.

This is the best start for the Cowboys in the history of their franchise, with only 4 games left, they have their most wins in a season since going 12-4 in 1995 ( their last Superbowl season)

“It’s pretty amazing to break any record with all the glory this team has had,” first-year coach Wade Phillips said.

The Dallas team is setting their hopes on Tony Romo and Terrell Owens, they know expectations are high, luckily, motivation is sky-scraping too.

“We’ve got ourselves in the driver’s seat, now we’ve got to stay there.” Owens said.

NFL - Jarrod Cooper, a dark stage on his career

Off-field problems have being a constant for the Raiders backup safety and special teams standout player, and now, it seems like Oakland’s victory over the Chiefs could have being his last game with the silver and blacks when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee.

Cooper was working on just a one-year contract, he was re-signed on Oct. 12, after having released him on July 25th following his four-game suspension by league officials for a violation of the NFL's steroid policy, he is now the second Raiders player to be suspended due to stereoid-related agravations this year.

The 29 year old and six-year veteran player was released by the Raiders on July but they acquired him again on October, some felt that this could have being the end of his career, but Oakland trusted that Cooper could upgrade their special teams coverage units.

It seems like it’s life itself playing him a bad trick, now his injury is forcing him to stay with the injured reserve and undergo surgery at an undetermined time.

This wasn’t Cooper’s first suspension, in 2003, while playing with the Panthers, he was suspended four games and docked six game checks after a second incident in which he was charged with driving while impaired, he was accused of lying to an officer on the spring of 2004 and right after, the Panthers decide it to let him go.

Bad luck? A bad attitude? A combination? Sometimes a bright future can be clouded with human flaws, and Jarrod Cooper is the living proof, now he is hoping to finally see the light after the tunnel.

Bill Willis dies, mourning in The Hall Of Fame

The world of football at all levels is lamenting the death of one of the key stones of modern NFL.

Bill Willis died on Tuesday, November the 27th of complications following a stroke suffered on Thanksgiving. He was one of the first African-American players to play professional football, in fact, he was part of the 1946 newly formed Cleveland Browns; Before this, no black player had appeared in a pro football game since the National Football League of the early 1930’s.

Playing mostly on defense, he was selected as a first-team all-league player three times in the All-America Football Conference and four times in the NFL., which the Browns joined in 1950.

In an era where racial matters were a constant, Willis and fellow Browns teammates Marion Motley, Kenny Washington, and Woody Strode, were like the Dr.King’s of football, preaching with their talent, they set an example for others to follow, and mostly, they gave African-American kids some hope.

His major achievements:

1971: Inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame

1977: Inducted as a charter member of the Ohio State Varsity and O Hall of Fame and into the Pro Football Hall of Fame

"My father had a wonderful life, did a lot of great things and helped a lot of people," Clem Willis (his son)said.

Romeo Crennel, who was hired as Cleveland’s first black head coach not long ago, also remembered him: ''Bill was a pioneer,. ''He blazed a trail for guys like myself.'' he said.
