Ivanovic out of US Open

As of now Ana Ivanovic is still the number one ranked female tennis player in the world, she gained this recognition after winning the French Open a couple of months ago.

But, yesterday she got eliminated from the US Open, a competition she was expected to win, and the woman who took her down from her throne was an 188th ranked Julie Coin.

On one side, Coin played above her rank and on the other, Ivanovic showed a poor performance, "Obviously if you would ask me at the moment if I'm playing like No. 1 probably not, but I can't judge too much on that because I really haven't had chance to practice," the Serbian said.

Ivanovic is not too far from losing her number one spot, as other 4 women are true contenders to overtake her, including world No. 2 Jelena Jankovic, No. 4 Serena Williams (both by reaching the semifinals), No. 5 Elena Dementieva and No. 6 Dinara Safina (both by reaching the finals).

Favre vs Pennington

To make room for Brett Favre on the Jets, the NY team released Chad Pennington, who immediately signed with the Dolphins, now the old rivalry between the two franchises is taking a different approach since Pennington will surely try to prove the Jets that they made a bad mistake when they let him go to get the services of a quarterback who doesn’t have too much time left at the NFL.

Well, Favre is old, but he’s still competitive, and Pennington is less experimented but he has the youth, so both quarterbacks are going to play their wild cards when the right time comes with different modus operandis but with the same willing to prove that they are better than the other.

The only aspect Favre and Pennington share is the fact is that they are just getting to know their respective new teams and that might be the main factor that could play against them.

On the numbers, the Jets have an edge on the mutual rivalry, as they are 45-39-1 in their all-time series.

Obama's statements upset Cubs fans

There is no secret that Senator Barak Obama is a White Sox fan, but on a recent interview, he agitated the already turbulent waters around his team and the Cubs when he said “You go to Wrigley Field, you have a beer, beautiful people up there, people aren't watching the game. It's not serious. White Sox, that's baseball.”

Maybe he said those things just as a baseball fan, but when you are running for President of the United States, you need to support every single team no matter which one is your favorite, and even more when Hillary Clinton fans might not vote for him on elections day.

And considering that the Cubs hasn’t won an MLB World Series in 99 years and that right now they are heading their division, it’s just not a smart thing to do, plus he is fueling the republicans with more weapons to attack him when the right time comes.

I truly believe Obama does not have it easy against McCain even when he looks like the favorite to be the next commander in chief, but if he stop throwing non sense statements, his chances of living in the White House might increase...

Kevin Duckworth dies at age 44

True, the Clippers were on the news lately due to the arrival of Baron Davis and the departure of Elton Brand to the 76ers, but now they are on the headlines for a different reason: the dead of former NBA star Kevin Duckworth, whom finished a glorious career at the NBA with the Clips.

Duckworth started playing at the NBA in 1986 after being picked on round two of that year’s draft by the Spurs, with whom he played for just a year, then he moved to Portland to play with the Blazers from 86’ to 93’, then he arrived to the deceased Washington Bullets for two years. On 95’ he went to play for the Bucks and finally he moved to the Clippers for another single season.

The Duck’ as he was known by teammates and fans had his best moments playing for Portland to whom he led to the NBA finals of 90’and 92’.

Truly a sad moment for NBA fans alike, his death was confirmed by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, he was 44.

Cubans eliminate the USA at Beijing Olympics

So Team USA (basketball) is doing great this time around at the Beijing Olympics, but the other team, the one that is considered the official US national Olympics team, the USA baseball team, will surely not going to carry a gold medal home as they got beaten by Cuba 10-2, instead, they will have to go against Japan for the Bronze on Saturday, while the Cubans will face the undefeated Koreans, who defeated the Japanese by 6-2.

So the US Baseball team won’t have another chance of winning the gold until 2016, as baseball was removed from Olympic competition for London 2012.

This match meant revenge for Cuba, as the US baseball team defeated them last year when they Americans won the world championship to the Cubans, but there is something for sure: the team the US brought to the Olympics is not as near as competitive as the one who defeated the team from the biggest island of the greater Antilles.

All in all, the Cubans have what it takes to go for the gold and, they will certainly give their best for that to happen.

Team USA vs Celtics

So team USA is doing great at the Olympics, that’s true, but do they have what it takes to beat the current holders of the NBA championship, the Celtics?

I got my doubts.

Team USA might be comprised of superstars, but they have had little practice time, and chemistry is not something they have embraced completely. Sure, they have beaten every single opponent at the Beijing Olympics by wide margins, but when it comes to face a team that just achieved their first championship in 17 years, and against their all-time rival, the Lakers, I have my doubts about their chances to come out with the victory since Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen have played together for a whole year and are probably more secure of what they can do as a unit than Team USA.

The Americans fell disastrously the past two Olympic meetings and were forced to come up with a team that might be unbeatable by the rest of the world, but when it comes to the current NBA champions, uncertainty is on the air.

Dolphins going the right way

Well things are surely different for the Dolphins this current season, and that showed on their victory against the Jaguars on 08/16 by 19-14.

Last season Miami managed to win only a single game, and they were definitely far from being the team that once went undefeated and was watched as the team to imitate.

But for this 08/09 NFL season Bill Parcells decided to change one or two things, mainly on the talent area, and so former Jets quarterback joined the Dolphins and on his first game against the Jags, he showed what he’s capable of as he had an impressive debut where he finished with 5 of 6 pass completions for 55 yards and threw for two scoring drives.

On the other hand, the Dolphins will be missing Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas for the season, but it seems like things are just going the right direction for Miami, and there is still plenty of football to see what Parcells had put together.
