"If he's so smart, how come you lost Congress?"

Well, Mr. Bill Plante of CBS News has some balls. He shouted out to President Bush what almost all of America would’ve wanted to do but didn’t get the chance to, regarding Karl Rove’s resignation. It’s got nothing to do with sports but hey, it’s my blog and I just think it’s notable that Bill Plante would get carried away like that and was so courageous! Well done Billy!

On the other hand, it continues to be an exciting Monday ladies and gentleman not only because Van Halen announced through a news press conference today that they’re getting together for a reunion with none other than Eddie Van Halen! Rock on’ Baby!!

It seems good things are coming back our way and that’s why in only a couple more weeks we’ll have the first Official Football Game for this upcoming Football Season! And today, the appetizer will be the first preseason opening game: it’s Monday Night Football between The Denver Broncos and the San Francisco 49ers who will battle it out tonight at Monster Park at 8:00pm ET. My brother in law was trying to get tickets since he’ll be out there this weekend but at almost $800 for a pair of seats I don’t think his cheap ass will be watching the game from Monster Park.

PGA GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP 2007

PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

Well ladies and gentlemen, it is the guys’ turn with the hottest in sports action today, the final major golf event for the professional men: the 89th PGA Championship.

Who would’ve thought? I just read today that The PGA Championship in America rakes in the “insignificant” amount of only….$62 BILLION-a-year! This brings me to painfully realize I should’ve spent more time at the country club polishing my shots and my down swing, than hanging out with chicks. The winner of this years’ PGA Championship gets a whopping $1.26 million prize however, it isn’t an easy task. The prize is being disputed by some of the world's top-ranked golfers including Tiger Woods, south African Tim Clark, englishman Justin Rose who has an average finish of ninth at the three other majors this year, including the Masters, Andres Romero, Korean KJ Choi and the now infamous Rory Sabbatini: the reason why he’s showing up on Google has to do with the little circus in which he asked Firestone Country Club officials to remove a fan who made comments criticizing him. This was a paying spectator, a fan like hundreds of others that become the reason these type of events even exist. If it weren’t for the golf enthusiasts why would there even be a PGA tournament or how would they make millions of dollars by hitting a tiny white ball with a club? This type of attitude happens to anyone, in any sport, however, golf has always been regarded as a much friendlier, much more courteous type of event. From what I’ve read on the forums, people are very offended (“a real jerk” was the least offensive from all the colorful nicknames he’s being called) and most feel his egotistic attitude won’t help on the Southern Hills golf course either. On the other hand, he also made some outspoken comments about none other but golf’s superstar, Mr. Tiger Woods and this, obviously, has distracted everyone from the fact that Sabbatini is indeed, a solid player (with a big mouth shall we say?)

It simply gets old to see a grown man, specially a professional golf player on the top of his career (PGA Championship player) become a total a-hole for no reason except his ego and bitterness. Golf wise I’m putting my money obviously on Tiger Woods — rather than Sabbatini, however I’m open for surprise. We’ll see how this years PGA Championship unfolds!

Europe's big names face sharp foes in early stages Champions League

Just over a month remains to the start of Europe's premier football competition, the UEFA Champions League, and the preliminary stages are well under way with a range of european squads battling for the few lucrative spaces group stages.

Big name British clubs in particular have been dealt a tricky hand; Arsenal face two legs against Czech domestic double winners Sparta Prague who will look to strike a blow at the London club recently left looking pretty weak with the departure of star striker Thierry Henry. 2006 runners up Liverpool on the other hand face staunch opponents in the form of Toulouse looking to take an optimistic approach after their domestic defeat in the first game of the French Championnat. Manager, and Liverpool "hero", Rafael Benitez sounded content with the draw close to home after having travelled as far as Hong Kong in pre-season training with the North England club.

For Italian Serie A big guns Lazio the draw was equally unfavourable, experienced coach Delio Rossi named the opponents Dinamo Bucharest as the "most solid of this stage" and noted the fact that while his Italians were still enjoying the ease of pre-season warm ups, the Romanians will have had the benefit of 5 domestic games, in a league that last year they dominated and finished significativly ahead of second place. He ended stoically, stating that "the draw has been made and we now know who we face, we shall prepare in the best way possible".

The competition itself will start with a bang on September 18th with the biggest final in world club football final to be played in Moscow on May 21st 2008.

The NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductions

The NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductions took place this past weekend and there were definitely some emotional speeches, mostly focused on the enshrinees families’ and their support during the enduring times that ultimately lead to the NFL Hall of Fame recognition.

The 6 members of the class of 2007 Pro Football Hall of Fame included Roger Wehrli, Charlie Sanders, Bruce Matthews, Michael Irvin, Thurman Thomas and Gene Hickerson, represented by his son, Bob. Definitely, my favorite was Charlie Sanders and his moving speech. At all forums I’ve read so far today, everyone points out his class and dignity. Well done Charlie
NFL is coming ...
and you don't have a Pay Per Head shop to take your action...bad, bad bookie...

On the other hand, I got an offer today via email from the pay per head book through which I handle my players’ action and it is definitely worth passing on. For any bookie looking for a pay per head service, Price Per Head .com is offering the first 2 weeks ABSOLUTELY FREE…No min. or max number of players required, you simply call, move your players with them, they’ll assign a player username and password and you’re good to go for this football season.
http://www.priceperhead.com/ OR CALL 1-888-774-7467 and mention you see the offer at the bookies' blog. --- yes, in case you were wondering I'm probably going to get a break on my fees for this advertising but it'll help you too so don't hate ---
You can even get your own customized personal betting site so your players actually can wager online without having to call you anymore to place their bets. If you haven’t moved toa pay per head shop yet, I strongly recommend you take this option now that there’s still enough time before football season. You definitely don’t want to be running like a headless chicken after Sept. 1st. NFL for me was more of a headache than a profitable time for the past years. The moment I decided to let a sportsbook call center handle my action I sincerely took a load of my back. I was going nuts trying to balance a growing players’ package of over 100 guys calling me 24/7. No money is worth that, so I took what I still think is the smartest decision I’ve made in the last few years and moved everyone to a pay per head service.

Check out their page. If after trying them you don’t find yourself happy with the service then you’ll still have time to make another choice or simply get stuck with taking bets by hand for this season but whatever you do, time is running out so start looking for realistic, smart choices now before NFL starts.
