One of the big contenders to destroy Roger Federer’s hopes of coming with his sixth straight title at Wimbledon, the third-ranked Novak Djokovic, fell at the tournament to the 75th ranked and former number one Marat Safin.
Djokovic was anxious to defeat Federer again as he already did it at the semi-finals for the Australian Open, but it might be Safin – who also beat Federer at the same tournament – who will have the chance to upset the spaniard at the English tourney.
On the other hand, the only other Wimbledon champion who is currently playing for the title this year, Lleyton Hewitt took on Albert Montanes of Spain and advanced to the next round, while former number one, Juan Carlos Ferrero retired with an injured leg when he was down on the game with russian Mischa Zverev.
On women’s, Ana Ivanovic just survived at her game against Nathalie Dechy, and Serena Williams defeated Urszula Radwanska at court 2 or the so-called “graveyard of champions”
More on Wimbledon soon...
